The Four Fathers project was about recording and documenting the relationships between men from South Asian backgrounds who have lived and live in Birmingham. The experiences and realities of these men, young and old, are often overlooked and unrecorded apart from the personal memories and stories within each family.
We found and recorded the inter-generational relationships of fathers and sons and also looked at the parallels and differences of each person’s story to understand what has changed and why. We also went to record traditions of what was still important and why.
Through the project, there was a greater understanding of different generational experiences and the possibility of all to access them through the Birmingham Library Archive and this site.
